I've found it to be fun, exciting and a great way for people to make extra money. When I work with friends and companies who want to learn how to sell on eBay, there are two things that I tell them that they MUST DO!
First - Go to http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-1751-2978-328/1?mpre=&UID=%zb and set up your new FREE eBay account.
Second - Use my Sell 10 Rule!
So what's my Sell 10 Rule?
It's easy. Find 10 items that you can sell. OK, there are a couple of things that you need to think about in relation to your 10 items:
- It needs to belong to you.
- You have to be able to live without it at all cost.
- If you want to make money, someone will need to want it.
- Start small - Sell items that are no bigger than 4 x 4 inches
- Be willing to sell these items at a $1.00 listing start price
- Accept the selling price and this exercise as a learning experience!
I like to suggest, jewelry, small glassware items, small collectibles, linens, etc.
If it can fit into the smallest US Postal Service Priority Box (which you can get for FREE at the post office or online at www.usps.com under the Priority Mail section of the online catalog) that's what you want. Most 4 x 4 inch items will fit.
The next thing that you need to do is check out the eBay web page called Seller Central http://pages.ebay.com/sellercentral/newsellers.html where you can click and find wonderful information that will guide you through the eBay selling process.
Back to the Sell 10 Rule. So, you're signed up, have your first lot of 10 items, spent time on the Seller Central page and you're ready to go.
List your 10 items for 5 days. Make sure to be responsive if sellers email you and have questions.
At the end of the 5 day period, review your sales. Make notes on what you think went right and where you could improve. Now find 10 more items. List them and go through the same process. Remember, you are teaching yourself how to sell on eBay and how to list items.
Hopefully some of your items sold for more than the $1.00 minimum. If so, CONGRATULATIONS! If not, it's OK! You learned something that you can apply to your next listing!
I like to encourage new sellers to use The Sell 10 Rule for no less than 4 weeks. It's a great start and will put you on the road to successful eBay Sales!
